My Interactive Table of Contents is set up so that, when you access it, it attempts to write a small file, known as a Cookie, to your hard drive.
This cookie allows the Table of Contents to keep track of which folder and document links should be displayed. The contents of the cookie look something like this:
CurrState=10010011
To your JavaScript enabled browser, this means:
Show the first entry, but not the second and third entries, show the fourth entry but not the fifth and sixth, and show the seventh and eighth entries.
Some people are concerned that cookies represent a threat to their privacy or security, or are just uncomfortable with the idea of allowing someone else to cause information to be stored on their computer. Those who feel this way will, in all probability, configure their browsers to warn them before writing a cookie to their hard disk. They may even have configured their browsers to refuse to accept any cookies at all.
I consider my cookie to be absolutely harmless. Furthermore, I
have no way of seeing the contents of this cookie file
(or, for that matter, any other file on your hard drive).
Its sole purpose is to make navigating my web pages easier.
